49ers acquire LB Deion Jones from Saints in exchange for RB Zamir White

San Francisco adds veteran linebacker depth by sending running back Zamir White to New Orleans, reuniting Jones with defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as the Saints manage Alvin Kamara's knee injury.

The 49ers bolstered their linebacker room Sunday night, swinging a trade with the Saints that sends running back Zamir White to New Orleans in exchange for veteran linebacker Deion Jones. The deal gives San Francisco experienced depth at a position of need while the Saints backfill a backfield thinned by Alvin Kamara's knee injury.

The move reunites Jones with 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, who coached the linebacker during their time together in Atlanta. Jones, 31, spent the early part of his career with the Falcons and brings 114 career starts and a Pro Bowl nod (2017) to a San Francisco defense looking to rotate bodies behind its established starters.

For New Orleans, the return of White addresses immediate RB depth. Kamara is managing a knee issue, and the Saints had been thin behind him — White, a 2022 fourth-round pick, gives the club a between-the-tackles option while the starter's status is evaluated. The trade is the latest in a busy preseason of roster shuffling as clubs set their Week 1 rosters ahead of the Aug. 30 cutdown.
