Smith, a former Toledo standout, can play the nickel and now gets a fresh opportunity in Seattle's secondary. For the Chargers, moving a Day 3-caliber rookie corner for a future sixth-rounder is a tidy bit of cutdown-weekend capital; for the Seahawks, it is a low-cost swing on a young defensive back with positional flexibility as they finalize the roster. Smith's ability to work inside gives Seattle another option in the slot room heading into the season.
