Patriots running precautionary tests on TreVeyon Henderson's ankle after Monday slip

The second-year back hurt his ankle slipping on the practice turf, is walking and moving fine per a league source, and sits out Tuesday's session while doctors double-check the joint

New England is playing it safe with its young running back. TreVeyon Henderson slipped on the turf at Monday's practice and is now going through precautionary testing on his right ankle, according to the Boston Globe's Christopher Price.

The encouraging part of the report is how Henderson is moving: he is described as walking and moving fine despite the lower-ankle issue. Executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf confirmed at his Tuesday availability that the back is being checked out and will not practice today, per Pro Football Talk.

The Patriots close the preseason Thursday night against Cleveland, and Henderson was not expected to suit up in that one even before the slip, so nothing about the game plan changes. Everything here points toward a cautionary hold rather than a crisis — the tests are meant to rule something out, not find something wrong — but New England will not call Henderson ready for Week 1 until the results are back and the ankle responds to a normal workload.
