Etienne's designation opens a 21-day practice window for the second-year back as he works back toward game action. Jackson's move to IR makes way on a Panthers roster that suddenly has three open spots just as three injured players — Etienne, offensive tackle Taylor Moton and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton — have returned to the practice field.
Carolina opened practice windows for Moton and Wharton on Monday, and adding Etienne to that group signals a wave of reinforcements is coming after a stretch of attrition. The 21-day windows give the coaching staff time to ramp each player up before deciding whether to activate them for game days.
