Lions promote DeAndre Carter to active roster, add Myles Bryant to practice squad

Detroit moves the veteran receiver up from its practice squad and adds a safety to the developmental unit

DeAndre Carter is moving from the Detroit Lions' practice squad to their 53-man roster. The team announced the promotion Thursday, a week after the veteran receiver joined its practice unit. Detroit also signed safety Myles Bryant to the practice squad.

Carter's move gives Detroit an active-roster place for a player it had kept available in reserve. He has played in 111 NFL games, starting 21, across a career that began when he entered the league undrafted from Sacramento State in 2015. His most recent stop before Detroit was Cleveland in 2025, when he appeared in four games before a knee injury. Those career figures provide a sense of his experience; they do not establish what his game-day role will be for the Lions.

Bryant's addition is a separate practice-squad transaction, not an active-roster promotion. Taken together, the moves change Detroit's immediate receiver and defensive-back options at different levels of the roster. Carter's promotion is the significant status change: he was on the practice squad last week and is now among the players on the active roster. No corresponding departure from the 53-man roster was identified in the source account of the two moves.
