The move gives the Giants reinforcement off the edge after losing Brian Burns for the season to a torn ACL. Ward provides veteran depth and a familiar presence to a position group that needs bodies.
Ward's return adds experience to the pass rush alongside the Giants' remaining options. For a defense navigating the loss of its top rusher, getting a proven contributor back is a sensible add.
The signing is part of New York's efforts to shore up the front seven as it looks to stay competitive in the NFC.
