Dolphins agree to terms with RB Coleman Bennett on a one-year deal

Miami is signing running back Coleman Bennett to a one-year contract, bringing the former Bears preseason back home to South Florida

The Miami Dolphins are adding backfield depth, agreeing to terms with running back Coleman Bennett on a one-year deal. Bennett spent the preseason with the Chicago Bears before the move back to the state where he grew up.

Bennett, an undrafted rookie out of Division II's Slippery Rock, got a long look in Chicago's preseason program but was not kept on the Bears' 53-man roster. The Dolphins, who have shuffled the bottom of their running back room through camp, are giving him a fresh start in South Florida.

The fit is a natural one: Bennett is a South Florida native, and the Dolphins have shown a willingness this summer to take fliers on young backs who clear other teams' rosters. He joins a group led by the team's established starters as Miami finalizes its depth chart ahead of the regular season.

For Bennett, the one-year prove-it deal is a chance to stick on an NFL roster after a productive college career that drew late preseason attention. For Miami, it is a low-risk addition with no long-term commitment.

The signing continues a busy few days of roster churn for the Dolphins, who have also claimed and released receivers and managed several injury-related moves on the offensive line.
