Colts CB Sauce Gardner questionable to return vs. Titans with calf injury

Indianapolis star cornerback Sauce Gardner was hurt during Sunday's game against Tennessee and is questionable to return with a calf injury

Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Titans with a calf injury, per ESPN's Ian Rapoport.

Gardner is the centerpiece of Indianapolis' secondary and one of the NFL's most recognizable cover men, so his exit leaves the Colts thinner on the back end against a Tennessee passing game that began to find a rhythm as the afternoon went on. The Colts carried a 13-0 lead into halftime, but the Titans had stormed back to tie the game at 13 in the second half.

Indianapolis has leaned on Gardner in man coverage against opposing No. 1 receivers all season, and the Colts' other corners will have to hold up if he cannot finish the game. The injury adds uncertainty to an already tense division matchup in Nashville, where the Titans were creating chaos with a blocked punt and a defense that tightened after a slow start.

The Colts will track Gardner's status over the rest of the afternoon, and any extended absence would be a notable loss for a secondary that regularly asks him to travel with the opponent's top target.
