Cardinals stun Rams 18-16 on Chad Ryland’s walk-off field goal

Ryland’s 43-yarder at the final gun answered a late Rams touchdown and sent Los Angeles to 2-4

The Arizona Cardinals had the last possession and the last word at SoFi Stadium. Chad Ryland made a 43-yard field goal as time expired to beat the Los Angeles Rams 18-16, undoing a late Rams touchdown and leaving L.A. at 2-4.

Los Angeles had finally moved in front with 47 seconds left. Matthew Stafford found Colby Parkinson for a 6-yard touchdown, and punter Ethan Evans made the extra point for a 16-15 lead. Evans was handling the kick after Blake Grupe's knee injury had left the Rams without their regular kicker in the second half.

Arizona's final drive gave Ryland the chance to reverse that finish. The Cardinals got into range without needing a touchdown, and his kick at 0:00 turned the Rams' apparent escape into a home loss. Earlier in the quarter, Ryland had made a 27-yard field goal to put Arizona ahead 15-9.

Stafford finished 25-of-33 for 222 yards and two touchdowns, but the late touchdown was not enough. Ari Meirov noted that the Rams are now last in the NFC West; the loss is especially sharp because they had already done the hard part of reclaiming the lead inside the final minute.
