The Buccaneers got good news on their top draft pick. First-round edge rusher Reuben Bain Jr. is dealing with an AC joint sprain, but the injury is being characterized as nothing serious, and Tampa Bay expects him available for the regular-season opener at Cincinnati.

Ian Rapoport, who first flagged the positive outlook, reacted with a succinct "sigh of relief for the promising pass rusher" — a sign the Bucs avoided the worst with their highest draft choice.

Tampa Bay opens the season Sept. 13 at Cincinnati, giving Bain roughly 18 days to heal. The rookie is expected to be a key piece of a pass rush the Buccaneers are looking to sharpen after an inconsistent 2025 up front.
