The Cleveland Browns will open Saturday's preseason game against the Bills with rookie Shedeur Sanders under center, treating the outing as a pivotal evaluation in a wide-open quarterback competition. Sanders gets the first look, Deshaun Watson is slated to take the third quarter, and Dillon Gabriel is expected to close the game in the fourth, per Jeremy Fowler.

Cleveland is resting some — but not all — of its established starters, and Fowler notes the organization views today as a crucial data point in sorting out the quarterback hierarchy. Beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot added specificity on the supporting cast: most Browns starters and the injured players will sit, while Sanders is set to play the first half with at least tackles Spencer Fano and Denzel Boston alongside him before Watson and Gabriel take their turns.
