Broncos open Jonah Coleman’s return window from injured reserve

Denver has designated running back Jonah Coleman for return from injured reserve as its backfield works through another injury

The Denver Broncos have designated running back Jonah Coleman for return from injured reserve, according to reports. The move opens his path back to practice; it does not, by itself, place him on the active roster.

Coleman has been dealing with an ankle injury. Parker Gabriel observed that Denver opened his return-to-play window Wednesday while running back Tyler Badie, who has a thumb issue, was not present at the portion of practice Gabriel saw. Coleman’s return to the field is therefore a timely development for a position group with another player missing practice, though neither observation establishes who will be available for the next game.

Gabriel also reported that cornerback Pat Surtain II was present Wednesday with an ankle issue and that Jonathon Cooper was back with the team. Those are separate availability questions; Coleman’s designation is the confirmed roster-process step for this story. The Broncos must still decide when he is ready for an active-roster return.

Denver has opened a return window, not announced an activation. That distinction matters for Coleman’s immediate outlook: practicing again allows the team to evaluate him, while his next game appearance depends on a subsequent roster decision and his health.
