Texans work out veteran edge rusher Tyus Bowser

Houston brought in the longtime Ravens pass rusher for a free-agent workout as the team reshapes its depth along the defensive line.

The Texans spent Tuesday taking a close look at a familiar name along the edge. Veteran pass rusher Tyus Bowser worked out for Houston, continuing the team's search for experienced help on the defensive front.

Bowser entered the NFL as a second-round pick of the Ravens in 2017 out of the University of Houston, returning to his hometown area for the workout. He spent his entire career in Baltimore, developing into a versatile edge defender who contributed both as a rusher and in coverage before his run there ended.

The timing is notable. Houston lost reserve defensive end Dylan Horton to a torn Achilles at Monday's practice, an injury expected to cost him the entire 2026 season, which thinned the club's depth behind its front-line edge group. Bringing in a seven-year veteran for a look is a logical response to that hole on the depth chart.

A workout does not guarantee a deal, but teams routinely line up options through this stage of the calendar with final cutdowns approaching this weekend. If the Texans liked what they saw, Bowser would give the defensive end rotation an experienced hand while Horton works his way back from surgery.
