Shedeur Sanders throws for 79 yards, an interception in Browns preseason debut

Shedeur Sanders went 6-of-11 for 79 yards with a pick across three series against the Bears, and he's now slated to get the first reps next weekend against Buffalo.

Shedeur Sanders' first preseason action with the Browns had a little bit of everything: a highlight-reel throw, a stalled drive at the goal line, and a late interception he will want back.

The numbers: 6-of-11 for 79 yards with a pick in Cleveland's preseason opener against the Bears. Sanders played three series behind Deshaun Watson, who threw for 126 yards in the first half. Cleveland came away with no points on any of Sanders' possessions, though one drive reached the Chicago 5-yard line.

That march fizzled on fourth-and-1, a run stuffed near the goal line after Sanders had converted a pressure-filled third-and-13 by uncorking a 35-yard strike to Luke Floriea. It was the standout throw of his night.

The final one was not. Early in the fourth quarter, Sanders drifted to his left and floated a pass over the middle that Beanie Bishop read and intercepted, ending the Browns' best chance to put points on the board late.

Sanders was originally scheduled to play just the third quarter; a possession that started near the end of that frame kept him in until the fourth. The Browns' rotation is now clear: Watson opened Saturday's game, and Sanders will take the first reps next weekend against Buffalo.

One injury note from the game: rookie cornerback Michael Coats Jr., who intercepted a pass in the first half, exited with an ankle injury and was ruled out.
