Nix, held out of Denver's preseason-opening win over Atlanta, told Denver Gazette beat writer Chris Tomasson that working with the first-year play caller in a game Friday "will be fun." Webb, promoted to offensive coordinator this offseason, directed the unit in the opener — a 27-7 rout of the Falcons in which the Broncos piled up yards and earned praise from players — and now gets his quarterback of record in the huddle against Green Bay.
The arrangement is a peek at how Sean Payton's reshuffled staff will operate once the games count. Nix has praised Webb's preparation, and Broncos players credited the play-calling with building confidence in the opener. Friday's dress rehearsal is less about the score than about timing between a young franchise QB and the coach now feeding him the calls — the chemistry the regular season will depend on.
