Joe Burrow plays two series in Bengals' preseason opener
Joe Burrow went 5-for-6 for 39 yards across two series in the Bengals' preseason opener, with a field goal capping his second drive before Joe Flacco took over.
Joe Burrow played two series in the Bengals' preseason opener Thursday night, going 5-for-6 for 39 yards in a brief and largely clean outing. His only incompletion came when his arm was hit as he threw. Burrow connected with Ja'Marr Chase for a 16-yard gain, then took a 9-yard sack two plays later that stalled the drive.

On his second series, the Bengals moved 32 yards in nine plays and Evan McPherson knocked through a 56-yard field goal. Joe Flacco replaced Burrow in the second quarter and threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jack Endries to give Cincinnati a 10-0 lead.
The abbreviated outing is the typical runway for a franchise quarterback in the exhibition slate — the Bengals got their starter on the field, built a little rhythm with his top target, and turned it over to the backups. Burrow, coming off a fully healthy offseason, looked comfortable behind the line before handing the reins to Flacco for the remainder of the first half.
