Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy banged up after misfiring on potential TD vs. Ravens
McCarthy missed a potential touchdown throw and took repeated hits behind Minnesota's second-team line before exiting one quarter of work with an apparent injury.
Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy had a rough quarter of work against the Ravens on Saturday, missing open receiver on a would-be touchdown pass and then getting banged up before his day ended after one quarter.
The protection did McCarthy few favors. Working behind Minnesota's No. 2 offensive line, he was sacked once and hit on three other plays across four possessions, and the Vikings managed just 90 net yards on 18 snaps in that stretch. He was seen wincing on the sideline, per the game broadcast.
Kevin Seifert (@SeifertESPN): To be fair to J.J. McCarthy, he's under pretty constant pressure behind the Vikings' No. 2 line. The Ravens have sacked him once and hit him on 3 other plays. In 4 possessions, the Vikings have 90 net yards on 18 plays. (The Ravens have 14 yards on 9 plays. Preseason vibes.)
McCarthy's health will be worth monitoring as the preseason closes — Minnesota has one exhibition remaining before Week 1, and any absence from practice this week would raise questions about his readiness for the opener. The team had not issued an update on the nature of the injury as of Saturday afternoon.
