Eagles waive RB Jaydon Blue, waive/injure Carson Steele in backfield reshuffle

Philadelphia opened two spots on its active roster by cutting ties with two running backs, then added veteran Elijah Mitchell to the practice squad ahead of Monday night's game against Dallas

The Eagles reshaped the bottom of their running back room on Tuesday, waiving Jaydon Blue and waiving/injuring Carson Steele to open two spots on the 53-man roster, then restocking the practice squad with a veteran ball carrier.

Steele's exit was telegraphed by injury rather than performance. He left the Week 6 game against Carolina with a shoulder injury and was listed as questionable to return at the time, so the waived/injured designation formalizes a problem that began on the field Sunday. Blue's release, by contrast, is a roster-space decision rather than an injury move.

Elijah Mitchell arrives on the practice squad to restore emergency depth, while center James Brockermeyer and running back Ian Wheeler were released from that same unit. In practical terms the Eagles moved on from three running backs and a center, and got back one practice-squad ball carrier plus two open spots on the 53-man roster — flexibility they can spend at another position group or on a call-up later in the week.

The backfield math is the part that travels into Monday night. Saquon Barkley was ruled out of the Carolina game, and Will Shipley is on injured reserve, leaving Philadelphia thin enough at the position that Tuesday's news reads as a bet on health rather than a rebuild of the room.

That read is consistent with how the roster is constructed. The Eagles host Dallas on Monday night with Jalen Hurts already on injured reserve, so every available skill-position body matters, and a Barkley return would take pressure off a passing game that has been without its established quarterback. If Barkley cannot go, Philadelphia is down to practice-squad promotions and whatever Steele's replacement can absorb in a week — which is precisely why the club cleared space now instead of waiting.
