Commanders DT Daron Payne sidelined Thursday with minor injury
Washington held Daron Payne out of practice on Thursday with what beat reporters describe as a minor issue, as the Commanders' injury list continues to grow during camp.
Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne did not practice with the team on Thursday, and the team is labeling the issue as minor.
Ben Standig (@BenStandig): DT Daron Payne did not practice with the team today. Am told he's dealing with a "minor" injury. He was one guy I already imagined not playing on Saturday.
Payne's absence came in a lighter, Friday-style practice, and both beat writers on the scene framed it as a non-alarming setback rather than a serious concern. The defensive lineman was already a candidate to sit out Saturday's preseason action, so the down day does not appear to alter Washington's short-term planning.
John Keim (@john_keim): As others have said Daron Payne did not practice today. Minor issue. Was a lighter practice: typical of a Friday practice in-season.
The Commanders have seen their injured list lengthen in recent days, but the expectation inside the building remains that a healthy contingent of starters will be available for the regular-season opener against Detroit.
