Colts sign 6-time Pro Bowl WR Keenan Allen to one-year deal
Indianapolis adds veteran receiver Keenan Allen on a one-year contract worth up to $8.32 million, reuniting him with head coach Shane Steichen from their Chargers days.
The Indianapolis Colts are adding a proven target to Daniel Jones' receiving corps. Indianapolis agreed to terms with six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen on a one-year deal worth up to $8.32 million, according to league reporting that surfaced Monday evening.
Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report): BREAKING: The #Colts are signing 6x Pro Bowl WR Keenan Allen to a 1-year deal worth up to $8.32M, multiple sources tell me. A big-time weapon for Daniel Jones, as Allen reunites with HC Shane Steichen from their days together with the Chargers in a deal done by @ZekeSandhu of @KlutchSports.
Allen, 34, spent the bulk of his career with the Chargers and overlapped with current Colts head coach Shane Steichen in Los Angeles from 2014 to 2020. The chance to run it back with Steichen was described as the central draw for the veteran, who had been evaluating his options after a return to the Chargers never materialized given LA's depth at the position.
The move helps fill a leadership void in Indianapolis. The Colts traded away veteran receiver Michael Pittman this offseason, and Allen now slots in alongside Alec Pierce and Josh Downs, with Tyler Warren at tight end, to give Jones a more seasoned group of pass-catchers. Allen caught 81 passes for 777 yards last season.
For a Colts offense built around Jonathan Taylor on the ground and Jones under center, Allen projects as the steady intermediate threat — a route runner who can occupy safeties and extend drives. It is a low-risk, incentive-laden addition for a team that believes it is a piece or two away from contending in the AFC South.
