Chiefs rookie class intriguing after preseason debut
Kansas City's rookies made a strong first impression in the preseason opener, with Cyrus Allen and Mason Thomas standing out while Peter Woods and Mansoor Delane work back from minor injuries.
Kansas City's rookie class offered an intriguing first look in the Chiefs' preseason opener, with several late-round picks and undrafted free agents flashing in their debuts.
Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN): Chiefs' rookie class intriguing off preseason debut: -Cyrus Allen one of several late-rounders/UDFAs to play well -R Mason Thomas can move -Peter Woods limited (ankle) but will be factor -Mansoor Delane (shoulder) should be back in next week
Receiver Cyrus Allen was one of several late-rounders and UDFAs to play well, while rookie defensive end R Mason Thomas showed off his movement skills. The opener came against the Rams, whose own first-round quarterback Ty Simpson enjoyed a strong debut on the other side.
Defensive tackle Peter Woods was limited with an ankle issue but is expected to be a factor as camp continues, and cornerback Mansoor Delane, dealing with a shoulder injury, should be back in the next week.
For a team that has reloaded through the draft in recent years, the early returns from this class give Kansas City reason to feel good about its depth heading into the regular season.
