Chiefs open Seahawks week without Rashee Rice, Jaylon Moore at practice

Kansas City held Rice and Moore out Wednesday while Josh Simmons participated, leaving the receiver and tackle availability questions open for Seattle

The Kansas City Chiefs began their preparation for the Seattle Seahawks without wide receiver Rashee Rice or right tackle Jaylon Moore at Wednesday’s practice. Andy Reid said Rice is dealing with a right-hamstring injury and Moore remains in concussion protocol, according to Nate Taylor. Tackle Josh Simmons, who has a lower-back disc issue, was expected to participate.

Rice and Moore have different paths back. Rice’s absence continues his recovery from the hamstring problem, while Moore must progress through the concussion process before he can return to game action. Wednesday’s nonparticipation leaves his status for the Seahawks game unsettled. A general description of recovery is not an availability designation.

Moore’s absence matters on the offensive line, where Simmons’ participation gives Kansas City another player to evaluate during the week. Simmons practicing does not establish that he will take Moore’s spot or be ready to start. It does mean the Chiefs have a chance to assess him on the field while Moore is out, rather than making that call entirely without practice work. The club has more sessions before it determines its Week 7 lineup.

Kansas City is facing an opponent whose defense Reid praised this week, adding importance to the health of both its protection and receiving group. Wednesday supplied an opening-week snapshot: two key players on the sideline and one tackle taking part. The next injury report and practice sessions will show whether any of those statuses change before Sunday.
