Kansas City's training-camp injury report is getting crowded. The Chiefs said left tackle Josh Simmons is dealing with a back injury and did not practice Tuesday, while receiver Tyquan Thornton (strained hamstring) and defensive end Ashton Gillotte (foot) both left the field early.
Nate Taylor (@ByNateTaylor): The Chiefs say Josh Simmons is dealing with a back injury. Tyquan Thornton has a strained hamstring & Jimmy Holiday has a quad injury.
Quarterback-adjacent depth is also dinged up: Jimmy Holiday is nursing a quad injury, and rookie defensive tackle Peter Woods — who flashed last week — is practicing through a left ankle issue that is clearly limiting his lateral burst. The club has insisted there is 'plenty of time' before the season, but the volume of names is notable with camp set to break Thursday.
The offensive line is the area to watch. With Simmons out and other linemen (Trey Smith's hip, Chu Godrick's ankle) already managing ailments earlier in the week, Kansas City has been forced to shuffle the front — Jaylon Moore and Kahlil Benson have slid into expanded reps.
