49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was ejected from Sunday's game against the Seahawks after shoving Sam Darnold out of bounds and then headbutting Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones IV — who was not wearing his helmet at the time.

The escalation happened with 6:04 left in the second quarter. Greenlaw chased Darnold on a scramble and drove him out of bounds well into the Seattle sideline, earning the first 15-yard flag. Jones said something to Greenlaw after the hit, and Greenlaw responded by headbutting the helmetless Jones — a second major penalty that moved the Seahawks to the San Francisco 32-yard line.

This is not Greenlaw's first brush with a removal. He was ejected during a Dec. 3, 2023 game against the Eagles after a scuffle with Philadelphia's chief security officer Dom DiSandro. The NFL also fined Greenlaw $11,941 last week for taunting the Broncos' sideline in Week 4.

The 49ers led 14-10 at the time of the ejection and were already down a rotational piece on defense. San Francisco's discipline with Greenlaw's sideline conduct has become a recurring issue that the front office will need to address before the league steps in with its own supplemental discipline.
